My old friend Jimmy Turner, the horticultural guru of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, invited me to visit his latest exhibit, an installation of glass artist Dale Chihuly - the "father of garden glass" - and it is simply awesome!

The art pieces are made to withstand weather, and are lit at night for special emphasis. The display will be open for viewing through the middle of December...

Each installation

is lit dramatically at night

Jimmy also has fun

with pumpkins and gourds...

For more Dale Chihuly glass, and many other examples of glass garden art, a complete history of bottle trees (the REAL history, going back 3000 years - not the simplistic stuff on the web), great insights and quotes about having fun in the garden, plus witch balls, gazing globes, an entire glass forest in Germany, and many dozens of other examples of whimsical garden glass, check out the new Bottle Trees (and Other Whimsical Glass Art for the Garden), to be published in January by my friends at St. Lynn's Press... Look for it at all bookstores and online sites soon!
